THE PIKES PEAK SERTOMAN Now in our 62nd Year

Meeting on April 15, 2010

Only 14 members showed up today for lunch, which turned out to be breakfast.  The menu included scrambled eggs, hash brown potatoes, link sausage, a breakfast burrito and thanks to Frank Ulrich (really Rita), cookies.  Those foregoing breakfast had a chef salad. Our ever present Eric Scott started us in the Sertoma Song and Norm Andersson selected Pack Up Your Troubles to sing.  Trouble was we had plenty of troubles singing it!  Thanks to Jim Clark leading us in the pledge and John Whitten for his prayer!

                             Program

Today was fellowship day and Willie Horst fined several members for not wearing their Sertoma shirts.  The program was a follow up on the surveys that were sent to all members of which about 15 replied.

A steering committee has been formed and  met at Mark Elliott’s office on April 14th . Dick Wilhelm  reviewed the major concerns of the membership at this meeting. A few of these concerns were presented at todays meeting and included the following:

  • Changing the make-up of the officers and board to consist of: Chairman, President, V.P., Treasurer, Secretary, Sgt. At Arms, 5th year and 10th years past Presidents plus 2 others .

  • Board would be the nominating committee.

  • Meetings:  Committee suggests changing to an upscale restaurant.  Also consider changing meeting days, number of meeting per month, etc.

  • Fund-raising:  less physical and more mental fundraisers.  Teaming up with another club.  Making an impact on the community.

  • Social:  Continue what we have been doing and keep the wives involved.

  • Identity:  Need to make others aware of who we are.

  • Our focus areas should be:

  •
    1. Fund raising/participation
    2. Membership
    3. Marketing (our own club)
    4. Programs
    5. Social

The next board meeting will be at Dana Franzen’s office on April 27thThis will be an important meeting as the way we do business will be the main topic.  It is suggested that you attend and voice your concerns, if any!!!
